Wolff Earns American Midwest Conference Player of the Week
Most of the time, Centralia resident and Metro East Lutheran grad Andy Wolff is not the big scoring threat for McKendree University.
That is not to say the Bearcat junior can't score. He definitely can put the ball in the hoop if needed. Last week, Wolff was called on to score against Columbia College (80-71) and Missouri Baptist University (85-60).He was in double figures in both games, which led to him being named American Midwest Conference Player of the Week.
In the win over Missouri Baptist, Wolff scored 15 points by hitting 7-of-10 field goals including one from beyond the 3-point arc. Wolff also had four rebounds and a team-leading six assists. He had 14 points, five rebounds, two steals and a team-high seven assists in the win over Columbia College.
"I did not see the honor coming," Wolff said of the AMC honor. "That usually goes to someone who is an exceptionally strong scorer. Getting the respect of the conference coaches is as good as it gets."
While Wolff scored in double figures in each of his past two games, he continues to climb the McKendree career leaderboard in assists. The junior is currently in sixth place with 329. Since being named the AMC POW on Jan. 18, McKendree defeated Harris-Stowe State 74-66 and Wolff finished with a team-high eight assists. The former Metro East Lutheran player also had five points and nine rebounds in his 29 minutes of play. With the eight assists, he passed former McKendree player Dion Flippins who had 327 career assists.
